It’s on!
By Monday afternoon my phone was already ringing. The caller ID said “Roper”. I didn’t have good cell reception so I let it go to voicemail. When I picked up the message later that day it was a very excited message from Roper saying “please call me ASAP”. I thought to myself he is already planning, plotting and scheming. Wow that didn’t take long.
I gave him a call back after swim practice on Tuesday morning. When he answered the phone I was greeted with excited enthusiasm. He said “okay this is what we are going to do…..” He was putting together a plan to swim me from the GG Bridge to the San Mateo Bridge. This time he was determined to have me complete the course. My last swim didn’t have a specific course in mind. We went over a few dates and I agreed to whatever schedule he wanted. He is thinking that in just about 1 1/2 weeks we will do it. Prospective date of May 8th or 9th. The 8th would be better because slack will be earlier but either one will work fine. I am ready. I know I can do this.
I woke up this morning kicking my feet in bed. I was dreaming about this swim. It is so clear in my mind as to what I need to do to complete this swim.
Notes to self:
1. More sunscreen
2. Don’t put GU packets in your suit. (I have two terrible cuts in my sides from the foil)
3. Make sure to have liquid Advil for around the 3 hour mark.
4. Ask for mouthwash as soon as your tongue starts to swell.
5. Buy a few Roctane GU’s for past the 4 hour mark. Caffeine can be my friend.
So, It’s On!
This Summer I will be swimming from the Farallon Islands to Aquatic Park in San Francisco, a distance of 30+ miles. A feat that has never been accomplished by a female and "I am just the girl for the job"
Dream it! Swim it!
